I think the majority of people here use only Fleetguard filters, which I believe are what Dodge sells. They are generally cheaper at the Cummins parts house, if you have one nearby, or Geno's on line.

You will get a bunch of opinions on what oil is best, but I think as long as you choose an oil that meets the specifications in the manual your engine is likely to live a long and happy life.

I second the idea of genosgarage.com for your filters. The Dodge filter is probably a Fleetguard but overpriced like most dealer items. I bought my first oil and fuel filter from a Cummins shop and have purchased the balance from Geno's. Delivered to the door and cheaper than even the Cummins shop.

As for the oil, Delo is a quality oil and it meets the specs for diesel engines. Personally I use Valvoline Premium Blue. Shell Rotella is another popular oil and like Delo is very available. The most important thing is to use an oil that meets the specs for diesels.

If you are going to use Fleetguard, use the Stratapore's. Better flow with higher micron filtering.

Just for your info those first oil changes can be a pain sometimes. That oil filter is a son of a gun to get off for the first time, but it shoulnt be to big a problem for you. fleetgaurd oil and fuel filter, make sure you get the 10 micron for the fuel filter. I like valvoline premiem blue oil, its endorsed and recomended by cummins. but any certified oil will work well, delo 400 is a great oil and what I like about it is you can pick it up almost anywhere.

Oh and the dealer will want an arm and a couple of legs for that fuel filter geno sells it for 14 and some change.
