where to get 3.42 gear swap done in north.texas
want to swap the 3.73 for the 3.42-anybody have a suggestion on a good shop or where someone else has had theirs done. NORTH TEXAS OR MAYBE DALLAS FT.WORTH AREA i am located in southern oklahoma
Just read a post somewhere stating fuel mileage increase over a few thousand miles with the 3.42 gears over 3.73 It was .8! With the decline of what you can now pull and .8 fuel mileage increase or even 1.0 increase no way would I even consider dropping those kind of bucks into that swap.
heres the deal, i had a 2003 before this one with nv5600 6spd and 3.73 it pulled all of the same loads that i pull now with the 2005,but i run about 2000 rpms all the time,(anything over that and the mpg starts down)the current ratio(3.73) is horrible if i am headed across country, the even if it goes up only 1 mpg ,that is a extra 120 miles that i can go on each fillup(128 gal to fill up)so combine the extra couple mph i will be going = (get there faster)plus the extra range (120miles) in fuel milage.that is more than worth it to me,plus when driving empty if i want to run with traffic it will not sound like it is going to blowup. if i didnt have the 2003 truck it wouldnt even bother me,because i wouldnt know. i HATE the gearing in this truck, being this low.
fyi-2000=20mpg and 2300=16-17mpg my truck is much more efficent below 2000 rpm,but the biggest thing is it sounds like it is wound out all the time,i know it wont hurt it,but if not fixed i will sell it.
