Good news.

What fuel filter was initially installed? I wonder if it was just a fuel filter and not a water seperator/fuel filter?

It was a 7 Micron Fleetguard from Geno's.

Mine did it a while back, my friend noticed it when I started it. I did a little research, and it's common when a diesel has cool cylinder temps to get some white or blue smoke on start up. Well mine didn't do it until I gutted the cat., and put a straight threw muffler on the truck, so I'm assuming the temps may have been a little cooler without any back pressure now, and made it more noticeable on start up. One thing else i noticed, when I put some two stroke oil in the tank just see if it ran any different, the smoke stopped completely. so I don't know what the heck is going on now, but it hasn't done that ever since, maybe 8 months now., and I only put the oil in once.

Yeah, mine just started doing it out of the blue (no pun intended), 2 days after it got its oil changed at the dealership. It had only given me a slight blue haze one time and it was about 0 degrees out without being plugged in, other then that it has never given me any smoke. Glad it's fixed now though.
