Well my 06 3500 is the 3rd 3rd Gen i have owned and it runs like a champ like it should but it has a nasty smell on start up when cold or been sitting all day or night. IT smells like burnt diesel and it god awfull my other trucks never did this.

I had the white smoke on start up problem and the dealer flashed it with the recall fix and it went away. I still get alittle light light haze puff when i start it up but u have to really be picky to see it.

The best way i can describe the smell is its like a gasoline car when it starts up and the cat is not warm it smell like raw exhaust for a bit till the cat warms up. The same thing happends with my truck but it smells like burnt diesel its foul but it clears up in about a minute. My previous trucks never did this. I wondering if I have leaky injectors or something

Mine does the same thing, been that way since it was new.

 

The smell of burnt diesel in a diesel truck OMG.

I get the same thing-i figure its just unburnt diesel running thru it on startup-goes away in after a couple of seconds.

 

Mine doesn't do it. I bet all that unburned fuel is raising heck with your cylinders and rings. Maybe this is why people break rings so early.
