Along those lines, there is an interesting article in Consumer Reports, about how far off claimed city milage is from what cars actually get. I thought that the EPA estimate was at least good for comparison of two vehicles, even if not realistic, but apparently the amount they are off varies greatly from vehicle to vehicle.

The one they listed as the most far off was the Diesel Liberty, which claims 22 city, but got 11 (off by 50%).

Heck, my truck does better than that. In a different article, they described the dsl Liberty as "noisy and slow", and my truck is neither of those.

Anyhow, the October issue is a good read.

My 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited 4x4 CRD has never been below 23.6 mpg, hand-calculated, since I've owned it.....it's neither noisy or slow as well. The 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 w/3.7L V6 and automatic we previously owned consistently averaged low 18.0's 90% of the time.

As far as Consumer Reports is concerned, I wouldn't waste my **** on a burning copy of their crappy magazine.

Helen Keller must have been punching the numbers on the calculator for CR to obtain an 11 mpg average on a Liberty CRD.

I am a subscriber of consumer reports, & generally like it, mostly to compare price ranges on things I'm looking for. I read the article on the Liberty, & could'nt beleive the milage they reported. I've talked to a couple owners, & they report about the same as maynard3 low to mid 20's

My wife has a CRD now with about 2k miles and she's getting 20-21 mostly city should improve after she gets some more miles on it. Peppy little sucker though! I am a little disappointed in it though since my trucks getting 20 on the Hwy with about 8K on it. Its all hand calculated. Computers LIE!!!!
