not that it matters does it
I will say one thing it makes me feel good to know this engine came from the factory in options as high as 800ft lbs. It kinda assures that we must have something to envy, but your right its not a demanded option to have a 6.0 in a f-650 or 750

Oh, but also have a way to lock that overdrive out like the '06s have.
The '06 hemi does have essentially multiple ratings. I've been told it has a system that drops the spark to certain cylinders during low power demand situations.
Re, the write up on the new BIG Duramax. A comment that really caught my attention was somthing about new injectors delivering more fuel which makes more power. Well, with diesel fuel at $3.00+ per gallon, the torque race may very well be losing it's charm. I'd rather get 25 mpg with a puny 500 than 12 and have 650 that I don't need and would never use. I'm very happy with my totally stock puny little 555.

Doesn't GM currenlty defuel the Allison in 1st and 5th already ? From descriptions by some of failing to move heavy loads it sounds like the Ford may also defuel it's trucks to protect the automatic. It seems that we're in a 'paper war', where running starts up hills with trailers is supposed to be some sort of test of performance. A real world test would be stopping with a max load on a steep grade and seeing how long it takes to get it moving, and another would be moving a heavier than max rated load.
Hannibal, As much as I try, to be light footed, pus_y footed, whatever you call it, this thing eats a lot more fuel than my older trucks. I like knowing have have LOTS of power on hand, but I sure wish there was an economy mode that got me low to mid 20's at 60-65mph.
thought this was intresting...
hmm...where did they get that idea???
The Duramax 6600 also has a new intake air heater to reduce smoke and emissions during cold or light-load driving. The system features a 1000-watt grid heater located in the air intake duct, which is triggered automatically by the engine controller. It heats up the incoming air to speed warm-up of the engine.

I too would buy a 1500 diesel only if it had a Cummins in it.
I'd buy my wife a Durango, only if it had a Cummins in it.
Insider info
I have gotten some inside information that Dodge might be putting the new cummins, VM or Mercedes V-6, V-8's in Durango's and 1500's. DCX has tested the market by puting a mercedes 5.7L V-8 diesel in a Jeep Grand Cherokee in Australia where the sulfure content in diesel fuel is much lower than current U.S regulations prohibit.

Not the mercedes benz thing
