Exclamation What's next for Cummins

How will Cummins and DCX respond to this?....http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayS...74&docid=16955

Engine output for Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD increased to 360 horsepower and a class-leading 650 lb-ft of torque

How do you think?

Have you actually seen one? Problems with it maybe?

Ahh, this one has been beat to death already.

The 5.9L ISB is rated as high as 425hp/800lb.ft. in certain marine applications.

When Cummins is ready they will blow the MaxiPad and PowerJoke away. They're just being modest right now.

I read somewhere that for 07, Ford and Cummins are increasing cubic inches. Ford is going to 6.4 and Cummins is going to 6.7. Interesting! The beat goes on.

I wonder how long it is before you can get a truck with a CAT.

I hear that cat is going to build fords 6.4. We will see. Any thing will be better than the current 6.0 liter. What dodge needs is an auto tranny thats worth a ****. Then they can turn up the power. I will bet you will see 400/800 in a year or two. Should be fun!

Nope not a Cat 6.4. International is on until 2012 I believe (ck on Intl website). I have said all along, If Cat builds an engine for a pickup truck, no matter who is building it, it will control the market(if priced similar) Everywhere I travel I see CAT front license plates, shirts, hats, etc. Lets face it as far as diesels go, CAT has I would bet the biggest Brand Name. I have heard that Cat has no plans to enter the pickup truck market though.

I know one thing, we sell 10x more f-650 and f-750's with Cat's, than the ISB or Intl 365 (Intl version of 6.0)

I wonder how long it will be until International scales down their dt466 inline engine, and puts it in a pickup truck?

Why would you want a light duty diesel engine with ACERT technology?

We all know about how valuable brand management is. That's why Ford sells so many PowerJokes.

I wonder how long it will be until Cummins scales down the ISC and puts it in a pickup truck?

Funny how they don't offer the ISC (8.3L) in the F-650/750 like the other 2 increased displacement engines.

According to Ford, you can get the Powerstroke in the F-650. Funny, I've never seen a single one...

Anyway, I also have heard of planned increase in displacement, but it was supposed to be more for reducing emissions than to compete in the Torque War. As someone pointed out, there are more powerful ISB's out there for commercial purposes, and I think its the rest of the drivetrain (and emissions) that keeps them rated lower in pickups.

I'd prefer the brands get into a Fuel Efficiency competition, or maybe Dodge could blow the others out of the water with the only 7 speed manual in a diesel pickup...

Its actually not a Powerstroke in a f-650 or f-750. Its called an International VT-365. Which is a 6.0 litre diesel engine but does not have all of the same characteristics of the Powerstroke(Ford version) , It also doesnt have 1/2 of the problems. Im not picking sides. I would much rather have an ISB in a 650 or 750, than the others. I guess I mean when will International realize they have a better engine in use with thier medium duty line, why not ditch the v-8...you think it would make more scense

All Im saying is for every one of us diehard-research-an engine-before-buying type out there, there are 10x the amount who buy on name and looks, even if they pump a tank of gas in before realizing what fuel it takes.

I have driven a few heavy crew cab f-750's and the ISB does a great job, and pulls like a bear, not at all overloaded. Hey I may work at a Ford garage, and I treasure the ISB's that we get in, but here at home youll see more Dodges, Jeeps and Chryslers than you can shake a stick at.

You know Jeff, its kinda like that ol saying...look all you want, but at the end of the night youll come back to me. And I wouldnt run any other engine, plain and simple. Dont worry we are both on the same page

You know, this might sound stupid to some, but I'd like to see a motor that had multiple ratings....like, when not towing or hauling, the Cummins would have say 250hp and 400lbs torque, but when you push Tow/Haul, it lights off putting out full power....610, 650 or whatever they come up with in response to the Durasack increase. That way, we'd get awesome mileage when we are not towing but also get the power we need when we put them to work....I work all of my trucks pretty hard, but there are many times when I don't need the full 305/555 or 325/610 that my newer trucks put out. Oh, but also have a way to lock that overdrive out like the '06s have.

I guess Chev's next move would have to be dropping in a series 60. Now that would be interesting.

That would be a great idea and could very easily be done.

CSRAMSEY640,

Interesting. I didn't know the 6.0 in the 650's were any different. Learn something everyday...
