Whats the best Tranny filter and oil?

It is time for a service. Whats the best Tranny filter and oil? The fools at the dealership didn't do it when I bought it w/ 46,250 on it. They said it was not at 48000 miles yet. I guess the dirty/black air filter wasn't ready to be changed either.

The world is chock full of idiots!

I picked up my tranny filter from genos. I use amsoil ATF no problems at all. I service my trans fluid every 15K, and filter every other service.

Amsoil ATF is what I think is the best trans fluid to use as I have used it in all of my trnas for the past 6 years. Also change the fluid and filter every 30K. Oh the 30K is whats required for the 2006 tranny anyway so I would think your 2005 would be the same as both have the RE48, but maybe not, so read your owners manual to be sure.

I had my tranny flushed a little while ago and the tech at the shop told me it was real dirty and that they had to flush 60qts thru it to get all clean fluid. I know that there are people that are on both ends of changing vs. flushing but that is what I did. Anyway I never asked of what filter they used until the last time I was there...I asked them and they told me they didnt change the tranny filter because when they flushed, it flushed the filter clean. Is this true or do I need to change the filter? It's been 35k miles ago and I'm not sure when the last owner did it.

That must be why it took 60 quarts. It would have been cheaper for them to put the new filter in it then run 60 quarts trough. I tranny shouldn't be dirty since it is sealed. It is just fragments from wear items it is filtering. These oil and flush centers were used by me once. They were doing an oil change for me about 20 years ago and brought a samle of my diff. fluid in a test tube to show me. It was black! A week later I dumped both fr. and rr and they were crysal clear. I don't trust anyone anymore.

I sold fliud exchanges for YEARS with no issues and did mail service Cherokees (and other fleet vehicles) fliud as black as midnight. Never used more then the recomended amount.Old came out and new went in.The 60qt deal is B.S. Also only serviced filter every 2nd or 3rd exchange with NO ISSUES ever.In fact on the Cherokess the filter is NOT serviceable.Lots of discussions on the subject if you use the SEARCH function.

so true. When I buy used its best to change and service everything as soon as you can. I always do because no tellin what service the last clown performed. I usually always find that the trans pans have never been removed on most trucks. SOme people think servicing a transmission means go dump some more fluid in it

My neighbor is at the Dodge dealer today getting his trans filter changed.05 Dually 4x4)Its had a fliud EXCHANGE every 30k or there abouts. He kept meaning to change the filter sooner but just didn't get to it until now.Its got 120k on it and he called to tell me hardly a thing n the pan and filter looked like it could have filtered another 120k.He was floored.Said after reading some of these posts he thought he'd find a battlefield of metal and a filter that was plugged up.What he encounted today is basicly what I encounted for YEARS using a fliud exchange machine. That why filters wern't change any earilier then every 2nd or 3rd exchange. Those simple bladder machines are the best thing to happen to a auto trans since its invention.
