whats the 1st mod I should do to my truck
hello Im looking to get a long life out of my truck and was wondering where to start. I'm sure there's a list of mods I can do here but Im looking to start somewhere smart like my gas consumption.
A mod to cut my fuel and oil expences down would be great.
My warranty is just up now thru the dealer so I can start doing some things to
change the way I use my truck.
Im going to have a 5/wheel someday and intend to use this truck to take on the highway so I dont need a race truck here with crazy exhaust stacks sticking out or lifted with over-sized tires and stuff like that.
Im more interrested in the long run here.
thanks in advace

Just a plain ole guy
Make it breath. Open that exhaust up. On second thought, that will hurt your economy. Only cause when you hear it, you'll wanna hear it more. Especially with a load or going under a low bridge. I just love taking my truck to the Moody Gardens hotel in Galveston, in their parking garage. I wouldn't be surprised if the windows on the 10th floor rattle a bit.

Gauges, fuel filtration, lift pump, tranny upgrade, air intake, exhaust, injectors - then you can go to just about any mods your heart desires and have stuff to support them. When you are your own warranty station, make it reliable.

Gauges. First and foremost. EGT, Boost, Fuel pressure, Rail pressure. Tranny temp if you ever tow.
Air intake and exhaust mods. Open them up.
From there, it depends on which way you want to go... performance, towing, economy...

There is no G. There is no G. Repeat after me, THERE IS NO G!
I was going to say drive it first so you know what stock is. But gauges you'll want & need to get that idea of what the stock truck runs at. Congrats on the truck!

Gauges was the last thing my stock 03 needed (egt was FAR from being a problem) but I transferred them from my previous CTD.
1 - Get rid of the 3" muffler - mine was 3" on the inside, 3.5 on the outside.
2 - Change to a better turbo if you want to really wake it up without more fuel.
3 - Liftpump mod
4 - 2 micron fuel filter - ahead of the CP3

Wow what a great responce, thanks people. fuel filtration (2micron filter system) sounds like a good place to start for me any specific brand here?
Anyone have an air ride system?
Im looking to make the HD of my truck ride like a Cadi while im not hooked up or loaded down.
I havent ever been in a truck (other then a peterbuilt) that had this done.
I have a bad neck and would like to change the ride w/out removing leaf springs.
Im in another thread in here about differential fluid change.

What's wrong with the 3" muffler?
I'd love to have a cool sounding truck. but dont think my diesel's ever going to sound like my old pontiac w/ a chery bomb on it.
Lift pump? I read that if your not doing performance mods and it's working now, chances are that it's going to be fine. Arethey over heating?
Turbo is big bux but yeah Im going to need a good one once I get the 5th wheel, whats the deal with the one I got? Is it working the motor harder?
What about taking it to the dealer to have the computer set to econmy for better milage. I've heard something about this...?
