What is the "third injector event?"

I hear/read people talking about this, and I am wondering what exactly it is. I know it makes your oil dirty and can be done away with by replacing the cam. This is also only on the 06/07 trucks, correct?

In a nut shell, it is there to keep the catalytic converter hot.

Do a search on the forum, Third Event and it should bring up alot of discussion on changing cams etc. Thats been at least a year ago or more?

I've always been told the 3rd event is an EGR thing to keep some CO in the cylinder for the next firing sequence. In other words its a waste of fuel that sends carbon around the rings and into the oil. There are 3 injections of fuel
each time the piston is in the combustion stroke.

We've been trying to get rid of it for years. It was added for emissions close to the exhaust event so that the exhaust would heat up and burn off... stuff.

If you get rid of it better have ear plugs, because that engine will be a lot louder, its also to make it smooth and quiet,,VW TDIs have 8 events thats why they purr like kittens.

Ok, sounds like more of a nuisance than anything.

I could handle a little more sound for the benefits, and I can't see it being louder than my old 12v.

So if you replace the cam, are you actually getting rid of the third injector event? Or are you just leaving the valves open a little longer allowing all the exhaust to escape, and the injector is still firing three times?

And is this something EFI Live will be able to take care of?

efi live has the capabilities to control 3rd (on 5.9) and 4th injection events (on the 6.7).

The cam is only mechanical (valves). The ECM controls the injection events.
