I think it is cause of the standard trans....my 01 CTD auto with straight pipe droned BAD!!!!!!!! with just 4" pipe

I just put a 5" exhaust and 7" stack on mine and it has zero drone (have not towed with it as of today)

seems like all the guys who have drone have auto trans too
this is just something I noticed and wondered if anybody else noticed???
does auto=drone?????

I did say 12v but there's probably little difference in sound

At least that gives me a idea of what it may be like. I'm wanting to open up my exhaust. I've heard a few that must have been partially or maybe completely open and they didn't sound any worse than my 97s did.

I had my state inspection done last month and I asked what I could do for exhaust mods. I was told "You're required to have whatever it came with." If I took off my cat, it would be a $1000 fine here in MA, if/when caught.

The inspector was in his 60's, I'd say, and this was at a truck stop that does repairs on many diesels, i.e. he has alot of experience. They're also an authorized Cummins shop.

FWIW, the big thing is db's, here, he said. If a cop thought it was too loud and pulled me over, if he saw my cat was missing, my wallet would get alot lighter.

MA is one of the toughest states for emissions. Want a new Mercedes Blu-tek engine? Like Cali and the rest of New England, no go. Not yet anyway.
