What gears?

Is there a way to tell what gears I have. I just bought a 2003 CTD Laramie with a 6 speed. I asked the dealer, and the tags in the glove box and under the hood have been removed. I am curios what gears I have in the rear end. Running down the highway at 65 the truck runs at 2100-2200 rpms and sounds like its screaming.

Sounds like 4:10 gears. With the 3.73's at 70mph you would be a 2100-2200 Have the dealer/parts department run you VIN...They should be able to tell you everything

Tape a string to your drive shaft at top dead center. Then roll the truck forward so that your rear wheel turns exacty one revolution. Then count the exact number of times that the string has wrapped around the drive shaft. 3.73 is 3 3/4 wraps, 4:10's are a little over 4 complete wraps It does sound like you have 4:10's. I do, and I run about 2250 at 70 mph, just a hair under 2000 at 60, in OD. (have the auto) I'm not sure if your 6th gear is the same as OD in the auto, I'm just assuming.
