What first tranny upgrade???

I need some opinions on my tranny, I cant afford a totally built tranny at one time. If im gonna do it one piece at a time what should be my first? I cant believe dodge put a piece of crap behind such a great motor, from the factory it is terrible. of course its a 48re

if it not slipping i would baby it and save some $. You save on labor if you do the input, flexplate and tc at the same time, but all these depends on your plans for the truck

it does slip if I get on it. I think someone had a programmer on the truck before I got it and they got all the goody out of it.As for plans I drive it daily and if needed out of town for work mostly long hauls 10 plus hours. I want about 450 horsepower out of it, I recently done gauges and a cai, im gonna do intake elbow next and then start the tranny work before any power upgrades.

Start with these parts and see if that helps. Normally this will address slip in the clutches and the TC. When you add a TC you can pull the front clutch packs out and have them rebuilt, replace fornt band, and thats the bulk of the trouble spots in the trans if it hasn't been totally thrashed. If you have a trans guy that will treat you right, you can do a solid rebuild for around $2500.

Anyone know if there's a writeup anywhere that shows the process of upgrading this stuff, preferably a "for dummies" version? A while back, I lost the reverse on my truck and it was fixed under warranty and the transmission doesn't seem the same since. It seems to shift differently and if you get on it so it downshifts, it will exceed redline by a few ticks. Not sure if that's normal or good for the engine?

Thanks, Scot

This is the one from Suncoast, which I believe is the same one DTT is selling and the same one that PATC has.

There are evidently 2 versions with minor changes and this is the latest revision. It uses a Borg Warner solenoid that I am told is a GM version by one person, the 68RFE by another. Maybe both are true since I have not compared numbers.

If you have a stock trans and VB the GM solenoid can some unwarranted side effects in that the stokc line pressures are too low for it to function as well as it should and you end up with some harsh shifting in certain cases, not all.

Borg Warner has a new better updated solenoid out that will fit factory and has pretty good reviews so far. They were hard to get at one time and not sure this has changed.

FYI, another good fix for shuttle shift for the 05+ trucks is advancing the gear in the TTVA motor one tooth to preload some gov pressure into the system. This stretches the shift point a bit but the side effect is it can cure the shuttle and indecision.

I would rather have a manual but I had an 01 with a nv5600 and I loved it. My knee just cant handle the clutch day in and day out. May sound stupid but if youre knee is screwed its pretty simple. Thanks for all the info and help so far.
