What Do You Know About the "Heavy Duty" 48re Tranny???

I just had a "Heavy Duty" 48re installed by my dealer under warranty. They told me that their supplier was back-ordered on the regular 48re and that as a result I was getting a heavy duty factory remanufactured one for no additional cost. If I had to pay for it, it would have been an additional $800 to $900.

It has a heavy duty TC - it looks to be twice the size of the stock one. Upgraded VB plus a number of other upgrades. I was planning on an upgrade after the warranty was up on my original tranny, but when it self destructed and I got this one instead of just another stock one......I guess I can't look a gift horse in the mouth!!!

Does anyone here know what after-market parts they use and how well this unit holds up? I think it's only been made available for the last few months.

The truck is already $40k+, what is an extra $800 at that point? I say if it is that big of a difference, it should have been in there from the factory...

I've read a tonne of threads in here sayin y'all detonate your "regular" 48RE....wonder if anyone detonated a "Heavy Duty" model...

Does anyone know if the VIN number would be able to tell you what grade of tranny they installed?

Its a REMAN unit.So vin number won't do any good.I take its a fairly new part number.Need a good parts man with a dealer to look it up and chime in.
