My 06 smokes sometimes after a cold soak, not as much as yours did but still a good size fart. I also noticed an extended crank to start when this happens along with the infamous injector tick, (runs fine though). I took it into the dealer for a front end knock and the injector noise and smoke, but they said no problems it was good to go. Although my dealer has been decent to me it seems as though I have to diagnose any problems with my truck, then make suggestions to the service writer. I hate doing that, but it seems to be the only way they actually fix my concerns. My truck is also going back in for its second steering box, the tech that checked the injector noise said the front end was tight, which it was, they just put a second set of ball joints in it. I actually had to show him the play in the sector shaft that I suspected was responsible for the knocking I was feeling.

I thought i had heard Bosch recommends a minimum of 5 microns for the HPCR system. The Baldwin is the only fuel filter that filters to 5 microns and fits the stock canister.

Im just trying to learn

Actually, I'm thinking that it's a minimum of TEN microns (the trucks come from the factory with 10 micron filters, Mopar I assume) and I switched to the 7 micron Fleetguard just because I had heard some pretty good things about them...might seem a bit ****, but I change them every 10K rather than 15K like the service book calls for...course I also change my oil at 5K rather than 7500-15000 like the service book calls for too...

Yea, but what Bosch recommends and what Chrysler installs do not always agree. Bosch specifies a 5 micron and Dodge puts in a 7-10 micron. They are hoping it stays together past the Warranty period. Then tell you you should have used a 5 micron. 2 micron is even better and thats what I run

Yeah, but with 5 micron and especially 2 micron (which I don't even think that you can get filtration that low for just a drop in filter) you are stressing your factory fuel system. Filtering that low requires a GDP/FASS, etc system to push the fuel...loads of money that I don't have at the moment but wish I did. On top of that, neither Cummins NOR Dodge are affiliated with Bosch in regards to the build, specs and requirements of our trucks are they? If not, of course Bosch would say "you NEED our 5 micron filter for your truck" so that you will buy their product, no?

I would LOVE to have 2 micron filtration, but just can't drop the coin on a fuel system yet...(heck, my Edge/Diablo stack would like that extra fuel too!) But I'm broke

theres a lot of info on the Bosch recommendation around this site

Originally dodge installed 10 micron filters and were having tons of injection problems. Bosch reccomended 5 microns and dodge came back with the 7 micron?.

I have been running a 5 micron Baldwin since i bought my truck new...no problems changing it every 10-15000...i just wonder if the 2 microns really makes that much difference

smoke is white. its definitely injectors. they leak during the night and when you start its all raw fuel coming out. thats why it clears up a little

Yep, that's what I figured was happening...just wanted some confirmation. Problem has been fixed now, though...hopefully she'll last a while

Bosch has always recommended 2 micron for the hpcr. Dodge did not want to absorb the cost to revamp the entire fuel delivery system to accommodate the filtration requirements. G.M. recognized the need and went to 2 micron filtration.

Dropped the truck off at the dealer last Thursday and explained what was going on. They called me Friday and said they were going to need it for a couple of days. They are going to pull the intake to find the leaking injectors.

Taking it back to them tonight and hoping they make my baby run good again.

I keep seeing people talking about having their codes flashed with improvements. I had asked them about this when I had my blend door fixed but they said it wasn't needed. Can I make them update my codes since I see people saying that improvements are out there?

Not sure about the codes improvements and such, but I DO know this...I started up my truck this morning (about 55 degrees) and a little puff of blue smoke came out again...nothing like in the video that I posted...just a puff and it cleared up and there wasn't any serious rough idle like before...but this is how it all started before, just progressively gets worse...Heck, I haven't even been running the truck with the Puck on, so no added pressure, just to make sure that it's not ME beating the injectors up...hopefully that was a one time start deal
