What Did Your Magnet Look Like?

Just changed the transmition fluid (48RE). Magnet looked like a fuzz ball it had maybe 1/8 of a inch of crud on it. This was at the 15,000 mile trans change. Just wanted to know if this is normal or not.
Thanks,
Tim

Although I drive a 6 speed now I have had plenty of auto's in the past and for the first fluid change fuzz on the magnet is o.k. with initial break-in there will be more wear in of parts. Normal.

I put on an aftermarket trans. pan on at 2k and it had at least 1/8" of gray goop on it.
Friends vehicle has the same thing at 1.5K when we did his pan.
Should be normal with everything wearing in.

Thats why the magnet is there. Sounds normal to me.

When you find chunks the size of the magnet its time to worry.

Sounds perfectly normal to me. That is what mine looked like at 15,000. Had some more on it at 30,000 too, but prob not as much. I feel better knowing it is getting changed and cleaned regularly.

Tim, My magnet looked tha same and apparently it must be the norm, personally I was quite torqued to see that much gunk!! I replaced the stock pan with a PML which added 2 qts and dropped the trans temps to below 190 all the time we'll see!

Never mind much as this spring it is the first thing to get properly rebuilt!
