What do your used fuel filters look like?
I replaced the filter on the truck in my signature. I bought the truck on 4/28/07 and finally go around to changing it.
The filter came out black as sin. It was filthy. I put the filter housing in my parts washer because there was a black film on the inside walls of the canister.
Do your filters come out black? I wouldn't think they woudl be that bad.
BTW the truck idle is smooth and I have more power and black smoke.

Most all diesel filters come out black.
It's due to asphaltines that are present in all diesel fuel to varing degree.

You can get a pre-filter kit from Cummins for $8.00. It gives you a new screen , nut, and a gasket. When I just did mine I noticed the upper gasket on the pre-filter/heater assembly was dry rotted. You have to get another gasket from them (cummins).
What are the Cummins part #s for the pre-filter kit and gasket?
