What did I do and What does it mean?

This evening when I got home from work I decided I would check the hours on my truck just to see what they were. Well I could not remember the exact sequence so I guessed.

Anyway, I turned the key one click forward (whatever that is). Then I pressed the trip/odometer thing on the dash and then turned the key to the on postion. All of a sudden a series of events happened that I have never seen before.

The guages all began to move in some kind of sequence and a series of numbers was displayed in the odometer.

The numbers had some symbol or something in front of them, they are as follows: (5 37),(= 323), (C 542). Then the hours would show up at the end of the sequence @ 407hrs.

The equals (=) symbol and the letter C were the closest things I could find to represent what was shown on the dash.

Any ideas as to what I did and what all this stuff means. Obviously, I am new to diesel trucks so I don't have a clue.

I believe all you did was run a test cycle on the dash.

Don't be messing around unless you know what you are doing. The truck may put you on double, secret probation

That is how to check for chassis codes also. C-_ _ _ _ . To check for power train codes you cycle the key 3 times to get the P-_ _ _ _ .

I'll bite.

What's a chassis code and how do I look them up?

The cluster codes are of the format 'xx yy', meaning code 'xx' occurred 'yy'
key cycles ago. In your particular case, code 67 means "All door unlock
output circuit shorted to ground or voltage." If you're interested, here's
a complete list:

01 Airbag warning indicator output circuit shorted.
02 Airbag warning indicator output circuit open.
03 ABS indicator output circuit shorted.

6C Driver cylinder lock switch input circuit shorted.
6E Driver cylinder lock switch input circuit stuck.

AA PCM messages not received.
AB TCM messages not received.
AC ABS messages not received.
AD FCM messages not received.
AE ACM messages not received.
AF SKIM messages not received.
B0 RKE fob batteries low.
B1 RKE module communication link.
00 Done All Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) have been displayed.

Note that these codes only refer to functions controlled by the instrument
cluster (which is quite a bit in the 3rd gen Rams... the instrument cluster
incorporates the airbag system, central timer system, keyless entry system,
etc.)

For engine/powertrain diagnostic information, as another poster mentioned,
cycle the ignition key from OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON. Your odometer will
display any stored OBD-II codes, ending with 'pDone'.

(Autozone, or any other 'free codes read' place, will only read the OBD-II
codes, not the cluster codes)
