What do you guys think about just welding it in? I really dont want to just drop $200 or so on a new slip yoke just so it can happen again. I talked to a freind of mine and he said this is called "hydraulic ing" they use the same principle to remove a bearing if they cant get a puller on it by forcing oil behind the bearing to push the bearing out.
So what is happening is, behind this cap is filling with atf and then when you compress the suspension it is forcing the slip yoke closer to the transfercase and pressurizing the atf behind the cap eventually causing it to leak.
So why not weld it in? Does it need to be removable for any reason?

LOL, I've been thinking about that as well. I really hate oil leaks

The only problem I can think of is maybe distorting the yoke from the heat of welding. Might be worth a try.

I've seen this leak a few times, it seems pretty common on third gen trucks. If you can remove all the oil and rust around the parting line, apply some JB Weld over top of the area, then give it 24 hours to cure. That usually fixes it up.

What did you use to pop the plug on the yoke, socket extension and a hammer? What did you use to press it back together, just tapping it with a hammer? Just replaced the t-case seal but its leaking a little out of this cap too.

I fixed mine a year or so ago with a new slip yoke from Sadler Powertrain (very helpful and cut me a good deal) and had a friend of mine (professional welder) weld up the plug on the back. No leaks at all.

Guessing that all of these yokes have the damper pressed onto them.....keep a wet towel around the plug while doing this to avoid melting the rubber out of the damper.
