Waterpump took a dump

Anybody had their waterpump fail ? Waterpump is or is not covered under 5yr/100k engine warranty. What are your experiences ?

i had mine replaced on my 03 at about 30k miles. everything was fine, it was just wet and had the dealer replace it. It should deffinately be covered under powertrain. how many miles do you have?

I just rolled over 60k. No over-heating- what happened was, I had slowed down to 5-10 mph to make a sharp rt hand turn, when I accelerated out of the turn, I heard something vibrating under the hood and felt the vibration in the steering wheel and the go pedal. I didn't by any means accelerate too hard. Vibration, for the most part, went away as I kept accelerating. Got home in the pm and when I shut the truck down, I was walking around the front and smelled a slight anti-freeze smell. Well, I opened the hood and looked around and saw anti-freeze on my intake housing and all around under the pump. I also grabed the pump pulley and gave it a slight yank up and down and could feel the play in the pump. It is covered under warranty and no deductable. Only after 5 years does the deductable kick in.

How can it not be covered?
Ask the dealer if they would like a bad engine to replace or a bad water pump?

Same thing happened to me, you better check on how much the part is. In my case the water pump was 70 bucks, and the powertrain warranty has a 100 dollar deductable so I just fixed it. A 5.9 has to have the easiest water pump to replace I have ever seen, its only two bolts. If you dont have a deductable send it in, unless its going to take a long time.

I just had mine replaced and it is very clear in the warranty book. The water pump is covered on the diesel warranty and it is 5years or 100,000 miles. I paid nothing at all. Mine started squealing bad and then it stated leaking.

good luck

my dads 03 3500 drw crapped out at 135k earlier this year.
left him on the side of the road and cost him about $350 for roadside to come out and do it.

i also noticed most that crapped out are 03's.

Dropped truck off at dealer on Sat. Warranty covers everything except a rental car !!! While I was there, I noticed an 04 3500. Quad, DRW sitting on 22.5 alcoa's with a 6 in. lift, with 52k on the odo and completely stock. I walked over to the truck which had its hood open. They had the head pulled so I proceeded to ask the mechanic what was up. The mechanic said that something must have got sucked in the engine through the intake and scored the #3 cylinder. He said that the customer was going through 5 qts. of oil every 2 hrs. comming from puke tube, on his way back from Florida, not hauling anything. He is getting a whole new engine from Cummins.

Low on fluid maybe? the waterpumps on these couldn't be any easier to change than they are. I can't imagine someone screwing that up. 2 Bolts and the dang thing uses an o-ring. Hope they get it fixed for you.

Sounds like they didn't burp the system. It is very easy to have trapped air in the system after refilling the radiator.
