wastegate selenoid code 0243 ?

My brother in laws truck is throwing a p0243 code. It is a bone stock 03 2500 6 speed. I think he may have a wire rubbing some place because for the last few weeks after letting his truck set for a few days he has to jump it off. Am I on to something here, and where is the first or most likley place to start looking? Also, where is the wastegate selonoid located?

From what I can tell its located on the bottom of the turbo unit. My 05 is throwing the same code. I'll have to check for chaffed wires before replacing the solenoid.

An 03 truck doesn't have the wastegate solenoid. That's a strange one....

Have him look at the wiring harness behind the AC compressor clutch, see if it's rubbing.

If that looks good, pull the battery terminals, clean them, and pull the engine ground. Clean that contact, feel the cable, make sure it's not really hard or stiff.

Thanks guys. I'll see what we come up with. He said it would run bad and didn't have the power it should when he got on the pedal. Sounds like a boost problem.

Dodgezilla is half right. My 03 dont have a selonid but my BIL's does, just to be shure the selonoid is on the underside of the turbo, it is about 2" long, round and has two wires coming iut of the end. Those wires seem to be rubbing on the sharp edge of the "selonoid" up above the wire loom. Need to wrap the bare spots with tape and pull the loom up a bit, and hope this fixes the problem. Thanks guys for the replies, I will keep you posted.

Dodge did not put the turbo with the solenoid (HE351) in these trucks until 04.5. I would venture to say that his is not a 2003. There should be a tag on the valve cover that states the HP rating. What does that say? 325HP or 325ISB?

I will check the tag when he gets home, pretty shure it's a 03 with 305hp, but will check the date of man to make shure. May not be the selonoid I was looking at. It is on the under side of the turbo on the pass. tire side with two wires coming out, round and about 1 1/2" to 2" long. Thanks Dodgezilla.

That is definitely describing the solenoid but an 03 would not have come with it. My early 04 has it but it's because I swapped turbos. Those wires aren't hooked to anything on my truck though....

Dodgezilla, you are right. Popped his hood and shure enough it is a 04.5. Had to give him a hard time for telling me it was a 03. Thanks once again for the help.

LOL. Well he still probably needs a new solenoid. Plenty of guys like me have swapped turbos and tossed their solenoids in the corner. You may want to place a "Wanted" ad for one here....

He came over tonight and we taped the wires up and got them off the solenoid. One was cut through pretty good. He is going to drive it to work tommorrow and see if it cleared up. May just see if anyone has one laying around. Can you reset the codes without taking it someplace?

If you have a code clearer you can.
I have a friend with the same problem on his 05 truck. He had to solder the wires back on properly to make his truck run right....
