Washing Engine

My truck now has approx 17K miles. I washed the engine for the 2nd time yesterday to keep it looking brand new. I do not get my truck off road- this is just dust, bugs, etc.. When I say wash- I DO NOT mean pressure wash- just spray on a little engine cleaner and gently hose off. Also helps keep the A/C condensor clean from bugs. Keeps everything sparking clean.

Anyone else out there wash your engine?

Yup, spray everything in the engine compartment with foaming enine cleaner, let it sit for about 15 minutes, then blast it all off with the pressure washer. Never had a problem, and keeps it looking great. Plan to do the same with the '05.

When I first picked up my truck from the dealer, I wiped off the engine and sprayed a vinyl sealer on everything. This gave all the surfaces a shiny slick finish. Now, I just use an air hose to blow any dust or bugs off. It is quick and easy and the engine compartment looks like a new dime!

There a lot of different vinyl sealers available. Most are for wiping the exterior door handles, spoiler, outside mirrors, instrument panel & interior door trim, etc. Armour-All would work but I use something that also is good for leather seats.

I just spray it on and wipe it into the surface if I can reach it. If you have fender liners, this will make them shiny black and make it easy to hose off mud and dirt.

Advance Auto, Walmart and most any other auto parts place would have a big selection. No doubt there is a type that would work better than others.
