power washing engine question

Hello all. I'm new to the world of diesel truck ownership, so please excuse me if this seems like a stupid question, as I am not a rich man and do not want to screw up my new- to- me diesel truck. Is there any problem with power washing the engine as along as I stay away from any sensitive areas such as the engine computer and air intake? Are there any other areas I should be aware of? Thanks.

keep the high pressure off of the alternator, wiring harness and fuse box, and air intake. make sure the truck is cool enough that you can touch the turbo. I usualy do my interior detailing first then wash it down. I also try and time my presure was days when i havnt driven the truck for about half a day.

I give it a rinse with simple green and let it soak a few minutes or so. Then come back with the spot free. The spot free is a low pressure de-ionized water rinse to prevent spot from hard water.

I put a plastic grocery bag and rubber band over the alternator and fuse box area and make sure not to get to close w/ the pressure nozzle. Make sure your engine is cooler rather than hot before you go after it. You can spray it down with Gunk or Simple Green when its hot but stay away from the turbo and exhaust manifold. It'll clean up pretty well. Kurt

I usually get Walmart Engine degreaser, 2 cans.

Warm up engine a little and spray everything very good. Wait 10 minutes, then pressure wash the whole bay.

Never had a problem, definitely be careful with alternator and fuse box.

I had people wondering if I took it to the dealer to wash it this good
