Washing the Cummins?

My '05 has 41,000 on it and I've never washed the motor so it looks pretty crappy. Is there any place on the motor that I should not spray water directly on? The reason I ask is because I had a pickup once that sometimes wouldn't start after I cleaned the motor at the carwash.

I wash my '02 under the hood everytime I give the outside a bath. I just stay away from the electric components as best I can, and don't put water on a hot manifold (cracks). After I'm done washing, I always take it for a little ride to dry everything back out, nothing worse then water stains on your valve cover .

I've washed my 05 engine numerous times. I spray it down with castrol super clean, wait half an hour and hose it off, no problems except,,,,,,,don't put super clean on the top of your intercooler unless you want it shiny aluminum instead of black------ask me how I know this.
