Walbro lift pump kit?

Does anyone still sell a complete Walbro kit?

I have an '04 with the canister mounted pump. I have about 50k miles on the truck and am thinking about replacing the lift pump before it causes any problems. I had planned to go with the Glacier Walbro kit but they no longer sell them in favor of the Raptor and AirDog kits.

I don't have an issue with the Raptor or AD other than the price. $400+ for just a pump (raptor) seems too high. $500 for the AD with filters is closer but still a bit too much for the simple system I would like.

If someone can point me to a list of what I would need to make my own "kit", that would be great also.

I would like to bypass the stock pump but leave it in place for backup. The new pump would then go to the stock fuel filter house and then to a 2 mic filter before going to the CP3.

Thanks,

This write up is for an intank pump so you do not need to drop the tank. You can buy the adapter for the cannister. http://wiki.dieseltruckresource.com/...l_Filter_Setup

That's a nice writeup, but way more complicated than it needs to be. Why do we feel the need to run higher pressure with regulators and extra return lines and all that when the stock pump only makes 10psi and that's all the CP3 needs? Even with big mods it's about flow and volume, not pressure.

Well the main reason for the regulators with most of these setups is the fact that the pump puts out way more pressure than needed and it isn't exactly adjustable without a regulator. I don't think anybody feels it is a need, more like nature of the beast. Same reason we run regulators on our race cars.

the cp3 needs 10 psi? that must be half my problem then. my lift pump only puts out 6-7 psi. 8 when idling.

I had a walbro for a long time, it is a great pump. I would call Richard Martin at Glacier Diesel Performance, he is good people, and will take the time to answer all of your questions. He has an adapter that will delete the stock lift pump, which I would recommend due to the fact that if the stock lift pump fails, it will not flow through. He also has a kit to run the walbro to the CP3 direct, but if you are staying low HP, I'd keep the FF canister in the loop.. water drain and fuel heater...

However, comma, if you are planning on going big, over 500 hp, I'd go with a AD or FASS...

Have you tried calling Larry here? If you call Larry, he will give you a great price.

My LP only gave me 7psi at idle for the first 110,000 miles or so... Not your smoking issue, IMHO.

I called Richard with a warrantee issue and was very pleased with the support.

Larry and Richard are both good people, push good products that are fairly easy to install. If you do this, put an in-line fuel filter ($5 type) prior to the new LP.

Thanks for the info so far.

So, no one still sells a complete kit?

The link to the write up is helpful but that install was a bit too involved since I don't need to drop the tank and I plan to use the factory filter canister and and a 2mic filter between the factory filter and CP3.

I also wonder why they stopped selling the walbro kit? From what I could tell on here, it was a popular solution.

I had contacted Glacier Diesel about a month or so ago about a complete Walbro kit and them not being on the website anymore, and here is the answer Rich gave me.

It's a long story but here is the short version. Some of the gas performance shop found out that we were buying factory direct. To buy factory direct you have to carry all 350+ part numbers that Walbro builds. We were only using the 392 pumps and had no need for the full line. Walbro tried to force us to carry the full line and we declined. So, no more factory direct purchasing.

You could run 1,000psi into it if they made one to handle that and it would still only flow as much as the engine uses. Of course, I suppose you could compress alot more entrained air into the fuel at those higher pressures.

I have the GDP 391 kit and really like it. I've seen the pump for about $115 on line and the pressure relief valve on line somewhere, too. I built my own 2 micron filter head and found the banjos and hose at a Parker store. Banjos #34982-12-6 (w/push-on barbs) and hose #7212-381BK (meant for push-on fittings). Craig
