Voltmeter operation
Voltmeter operation
Not your normal ?... I know why the lights dim..
But what I am curious is on my dads 06 the voltmeter bounces with the grid heater, on my 05 it doesn't.. it reads about 12.5V until the grid heater cycle is complete. My scan tool reads 12.5 to 14.6 and bounces, but the dash doesn't. Is that normal on an 05, I know there are several difference in the dash from 05 to 06, the WIF and wait to start being the big ones, just curious about the voltmeter.

In some years DC debounced the meter, so to mask the heater grid cycling due to complaints from owners that didn't know any better.
I have a digital voltmeter and it reads about 12v with the grids on and 14.5v during normal driving.

It's not a real guage, the ECM runs it through an algorithm. Use a voltmeter if you really want to know.
Mine guage stays at 12V through a couple of cycles then rises after a minute or too. You can see the lights dim, but the guage doesn't change.
