Voided warranty help

I've talked about my ongoing repair saga before but here's the quick recap.

I bought a repo'ed truck with the engine apart. Replaced the engine at my own expense due to a voided warranty because it had a whole Banks setup. The truck is an 04 with 50k miles.

With the new engine, the transmission acts funny, shifts late, shakes at shift points. Its fine on the highway once it locks up.

I brought it to the dealer to diagnose and adjust. They say it needs a new transmission and my warranty has been voided. I said I could understand the engine warranty was voided but why the tranny and they said they'd have to check the file and see what the story was.

They're asking $4k for a rebuilt tranny.

Any ideas?

Just go get an aftermarket "good" tranny than you don't have to worry about it anymore.

They voided the trans warranty probably due to the increased hp of the engine.

I know the aftermarket tranny would be a better one than the stock, but at this point after all the money I've poured into this thing a free tranny would be my first choice.

The trans is the first thing to go when you BOMB a truck so I'm not surprised that the trans got voided along with the engine.
Free would be great but if you have to shell out the cash then definitely get a built unit. It will cost about the same as a dealer unit....

The trans was warranted with a stock diesel in front of it. They might say the added Banks power caused the trans failure. The warranty is set up for a stock truck, fair or not. No one is forced to keep their truck stock. I know there are things you can do and not void the warranty, but adding tons of HP is not one of them.

Where are you at in the Bay Area? I know of a couple of good diesel tranny shops. If you want to go that route w/ a aftermarket tranny.

The forum here seems to think the Goerend transmission is the one to go with. I'm planning on keeping the engine stock this time around. This is a daily driver. May tow the occasional car carrier or maybe a largish travel trailer. Of course, price is important. Is the Goerend the way to go or should I look at something else?

Localism.

I'd go with a local installer per other member's suggestion. Whatever setup the installer goes with would be best. You'll have a local shop to take it to if something happens.

Dave G gave me some tips when I was building my trans using his parts. A1 guy and my 47re is now able to handle my lightly modded 01!! I've also sold two of his trannys to a couple of my good customers that use their trucks hard. Dave had them shipped to the customers and I installed them at the DEALER I work at. They are VERY satisfied with the product.

Firemansdodge, I'm in Mtn View but I'll travel to a good shop if that's what it takes. I'd appreciate hearing about those good shops.

The dealer looked at the issue and determined that my transmission warranty was not voided so they were going to get warranty approval from Dodge to do the work. Somehow when it was on my dime, the thing to do was to put in a reman unit for $4k plus labor. When it looked like a warranty issue, they said they'd take it apart and replace the failed parts only.

When they did the followup on the warranty they said that my warranty is now gone because I did not transfer it when I purchased the truck. I have asked them to ignore that and let me transfer it now and honor it. The dealer is checking to see if Dodge will do that.

Sounds like you have an unfriendly dealer. Did you install the Banks or was the torn down engine a result of the former owners fooling around. I would try explaining that you were told there was no warranty at first therefore you had no warranty to transfer, now they are saying you do have warranty but because it was not transfered you do not have one....kinda ambiugious I would say.....

Maybe another dealer might have another idea and be more willing to assist you with this and willing to help you get a satisfactory answer.

Good Luck, but if all is denied by Dodge I might follow the suggestions of others about calling Gorrend and explain what is going on and see what is suggested , maybe a much lesser cost solution to help you.

donhov, that is exactly what I was told and what I will take up the food chain with Dodge if they don't let me transfer now. When I bought the truck and checked on the warranty, they told me it had been voided when the previous owner blew the engine due to the Banks. They said nothing about transferring the warranty for the remainder of the power train. Now after a year, they tell me I would have had a warranty had I transferred it.

I think I can make a good case with that argument.
