Re:vibration still there.....

Just got mine back from the dealer and here is what they said.
Customer: States engine noise, vibration, buzz/hum felt from steering and seat in 2100-2300 RPM range between 73-80 MPH. May be worse with A/C on.
Cause: FRT Prop Cause Hi-Speed Vibbs
85411600 Propeller shaft Diag
4942 Noise vibration caused by propeler shaft no way to fix normal.

He also told me that this was not a high priority at DC and it could be awhile before we see a fix. He said reason it is not a priority is because the problem occurs over the legal speed limit, which IMO is BS. If that is the case they should have a governor installed which does not allow the vehicle to exceed 70 mph.

Oh,one other thing. Yes, this problem may occur over the posted speed limit here in Michigan. However, when I visit my brother in Colorado we pass through Nebraska. Once you pass Omaha the limit is 75 MPH.

Re:vibration still there.....

I was just doing some surfing for additional information on propeller shafts and I came across this link.

If you guys already know about this, I'm sorry. I have never heard anybody mention anything about this TSB. Sound a lot like the problem we are having? ???

Dodge is aware of the problem. They have a couple of trucks at one of their venders for testing. A fix is in the works and a tsb should be out in under two weeks. I have talked with the engineer on the project about the vibration, they have isolated it. They have a meeting friday the 7th. At that point they hope to issue a tsb.

I have set up drivelines on custom off road jeeps. The angle of the output shaft on the transmission must be the same angle as the pinion shaft on the rearend. There is a tolerance of 1 1/2 degrees but the closer the better. This can be accomplished with special shims between the springs and the spring perches. A protractor can determine the angle measured with the truck at rest on the ground. Just my 2 cents. Tomkirk

Re:vibration still there.....

First time poster. Been a lurker for a long time, a real long time. Dealer tells me the vibration on my '03 2wd (500 miles) is the new common rail injection. "OK" I say. Under my breath I mumble "sure am glad to have the 7/70 warranty." The '99 never vibrated. I don't buy his diagnosis. The vibration in mine occurs at idle and is felt in the steering wheel, seat and fuel pedal and now at 1835 miles it comes and goes. While waiting for the exhaust temp to drop today, it was smooth as silk. Up to 70-75MPH it feels smooth. I guess time will tell if it goes or stays. Great site. Lots of good info. Keep up the good work.

Re:vibration still there.....

My engine is smooth at all speeds... Stop by a Cummins dealer and let them feel it, and see what they say. I know it is under Dodge warrenty, but how many dealers actually have a certified Cummins Technition on board. Not many I bet, and the gas guys would only be guessing.

Re:vibration still there.....

the vibration is real- honest spots & hairy1- we're not making this up- feels like a big electric cow clipper buzzing in the steering, seat and gas peddle- tends to put your rump to sleep- always at 70-74 mph- just had the tsb#19-008-03 done- dealer replaced the power steering line with a heavier one- literally- they cobbled a counterweight on to it- looks like a tumor- not a real professional fix- reduced but did not eliminate the vibe- suspect there is an addt'l source- maybe the tranny and the harmonic balancer?

Re:vibration still there.....

Well if it is driveline then that is an easier fix than an engine droan. Check the frequency of the vibration and start there. Balance wheel assy's, swap them, balance shafts, check driveline angles, ect ect. Done it many times. But one kick is that warranty pays crap for this kind of work. One of the reasons the dealers are reluctant to get into it. When I was at Ford we got .3 for NVH test. Then they took that away!! Most guys chuck parts on to get it out the door so they can get better paying stuff in their bay. Good luck.

Re:vibration still there.....

be nice to your dealer and it's amazing what they'll do- had mine swap not one but 2 driveshafts to no avail- told me to give him more suggestions and he said what he could get away with- haven't had the heart to tell him the tsb didn't work completely
