Vibration... HELP!!!
Ok, I'm stumped. In January I had Hankook dynapro 285/70/17 put on the truck. When I got up to around 60 MPH I had a vibration, so I had my tires rebalanced (road forced), I was told they were not balanced correctly, but still at 60 MPH I got I vibration in the truck. When I got orders and moved, I again had my tires rebalanced, I was informed that I had an out of round tire. It was replaced under warranty. I still was getting a vibration so I took it back and they told me another one of my tires also was out of round, they replaced it under warranty. Still between 60 and 70 MPH I have this vibration. Under 60 its smooth, and over 70 MPH its smooth for the most part. I noticed my steering dampner was leaking so I replaced it thinking that was the culprit. Still got a vibration. Do you guys think I need an alignment done? I did notice my front left tire is starting to wear funny. Could it be ball joints? I also noticed I'm walking the dog with the steering wheel on the hwy, its hard to keep it straight and narrow and I have noticed in a turn on the hwy the vibs get a little more. Not sure what would be causing this problem, but its starting to get very annoying. Truck only has 51,000 miles on it. I never had these issues with the old stock tires. Any guidance would be very much appreciated.
How is the front tire wearing funny? If it is cupping, I'd be looking at shocks.
Other than that, I'd give the thing a good once over. Jack up each front tire and look for slop in the ball joints, that the wheel bearings spin without roughness, that there isn't slop in the tie rod and other suspension parts, or front axle U joints.
An alignment wouldn't hurt anything either.
I had the center U joint fail on my truck. It mainly caused vibration at very low speed, like walking pace, but I'd also check all the U joints, including the front axles as well. Look for any rusty looking stuff around the edges of the seals on the bearing caps. You may have to actually pull the drive shafts to detect a U joint that it just starting to bind up.
If you do replace one, be sure to match mark the shafts, as the parts are generally balanced as an assembly.

IMHO to really tell you have to take them off and run them though their travel by hand.
My dad had a truck that had a vibration and it feathered out one front tire. Shocks were pretty new and no sign of leaks, but when you took it off, there was a spot about 1/2" where it went through the stroke with no resistance or damping at all.
Changed it out, rotated fronts to back, and all was well.

I'd start out with a trip to an alignment shop. I've had tires do funny things with vibes, cupping, bad steering etc and not a thing wrong with the truck. Not saying it's your tires but I've had 2 bad experiences with Hankook on my truck and a car. My wifes G35 is doing fine with Hankook but the lo-pros are different than the high profile tires I used. I took truck yesterday to the dealer about this vibe problem. An hour later the mechanic comes out to me and says "Mr. Carpenter, there is nothing wrong with the truck, you just have bad tires." I explained to him I have had the truck road force balanced 5 times, and had 2 of the Hankook tires replaced for being out of round. He is not the only person that I've heard say "Hankook's are junk." So, I took truck back to Discount tire explained my situation, and discount has agreed to swap tires out for a different brand. Moral of the story, Stay away from the Hankook tires.
