Swap gears to 4.10 or leave my 3.73s

I now tow a 5th wheel that has a dry wt of about 8000lbs and am considering buying a bigger one that weights nearly 12000lbs dry. If I do this, would it make sense to change my gearing to 4.10? Most others doing this go the other way to try to get more economy. The consensus seems to be that it isn't worth it for that. How about my situation? Would you do it or just tow mostly in 3rd gear (lock out OD)?

If I make this change, I will probably get a Smarty Jr and gauges (esp for the trans). Other thoughts appreciated.

Leave it like it is until you do something. No way I would pull with OD locked out all the time. Fuel mileage would be terrible. Before i would even consider the gear change I would do a Smarty and gauges.

Unless you could find a willing participant to just swap complete axles, getting 2 new gearsets and install would be about the same $ as building the trans and then you could up the power easily to overcome the gearing.
You could run 245 tires for towing which would help with your gearing for less $ too.

I agree - that's what I'm gonna do - new trans and up the power.
