Valvoline Premium Blue and CJ-4

I just bought some Valvoline Premium Blue oil. After reading a lot of CJ-4 vs. CI-4 discussions, it appears the CI-4 has the red label and CJ-4 has the blue label. Well, mine has the blue label (no red at all) but the back says exceeds CJ-4, CI-4, CI-4 plus, etc. The Valvoline site definitely shows the red label. I wonder what exactly I got?

The important question is do I stick with the same 7500 oil changes as in the past? All my past oil analysis have come back fine.

It's the CJ-4.

You should be safe at 7500 but if in doubt do an oil analysis at 5k.

Red label is 5w40 Premium Blue Extreme Synthetic. It is only CI-4+ rated. It has not been reformulated yet. Blue label is Premium Blue 15w40. If it says CJ-4 on the back then it can go in new diesels as well. It is backward compatable with CI-4+, treat it the same.

I just bought a couple dozen gallons of PB... the CI-4 stuff. the new CJ stuff also comes in a diffrent looking jug. Look at the donut on the back label, it will have either CI-4 or CJ-4 in the bottom half.

Unless you got real lucky, the CI4 should be long gone. You can still get it in 5 gallon cans, but not the gallon sizes. If you look real close, the CI4+ is prominantly displayed but the CJ is smaller.

If your oil part # is 70509 then it is CJ

I believe the CJ will have the starburst around it, all of the CI-4+ that I buy does not have the starburst and they will tell you to check you manual for warranty issues with the CI-4+ even though I only use CI-4 and never any warranty problems. Anyway the CJ should have the starburst witch basically means you should be able to put it in anything with no warranty problems.
