valve adjustment.
I see all these DIY writeups for adjusting the valves on a 24v but no where do I see any mention of checking the cross heads or bridges. Are they not adjustable as they are in the bigger diesel engines and if not can you get adjustable cross heads so you can keep everything to proper specs instead of just a hit and miss?
The bridges are not adjustable in and of themselves. Because the center sits on a ball from the rocker, downward pressure from the rocker is evenly distributed all other things being equal.
In all the valve adjustments I've done... and I am really finicky... I have never experienced "hit or miss". They adjust well and stay that way. Cummins recommends adjustment after 100,000 miles IIRC. Many people have experienced no adjustment necessary or just very small tweaks at that interval.
IMO, there are enough other things to worry about than adjustable bridges in the valve train. A non-issue to me.
