U-joint under warranty ?

I am past the 3yr/36 and have a bad u-joint at the rear: wondering if the engine /drivetrain covers u-joints?
Also curious about wether any of the transmission is covered at this point?

What is your experience?

I would ask the dealer but I have lost all trust in them.

What year truck? Does it have the 7yr/70K warranty? More info needed to answer your question.

The truck is an early 2004 305/555 48RE with 47,000 miles and has the 7/70 warranty

Just remember the 7/70 has an $100 deductable. If youa re mechanically inclined you can change them for less than the $100 and get better thant he factory joints. Just a thought. And if you are having tranny progblems there is just 1 deductable so if all are combined than it would be to your advantage to have the dealer warranty it.

One sign is a line of grease all over the underside of the truck in line with the u-joint. Another indication is a vibration on take off or deceleration. If your hearing is good you might hear the vibration also.

I have had the same one go out twice, first at about 32,000 miles and then at about 65,000 miles. I replaced it myself the second time with a greasable one from NAPA.

I've had numerous u-joints fail on my Bronco in the past. Mine have always started squeaking at low speed before failing. Another way to see if the u-joint is failing is to try to move the driveshaft. If there is any play in the joint it is definately bad.
