Turbo Shaft End Play

I have been chasing a vibration in the front end of my truck for close to a year now, and still can't find it. I had the water pump and the powersteering pump changed a couple of weeks ago, vibration still there. I checked the Turbo today, and found that the impeller shaft moved up and down. I tried to move it in and out, but had no play in that direction. How much play can it have? Any Ideas?
Thanks

I don't remember when they changed, but does your 04 have the updated power steering hose? If not, that can cause a vibration right at 2000 RPM...

Thanks Big Iron, based on the information in the thread you suggested, I am probably good on the turbo. As far as the power steering hose goes, it has the weight attached to the line.

If it only did it while driving I would suspect U joints, but it does it at idle in park. I am going to check with the local Cummins shop tomorrow to see what they say.

Is your truck automatic or manual trans? Did you have trans out recently? Possible torque convertor going out. Does vibration start at 1200 RPM and go away at higher RPM? Also check the harmonic balancer on front of engine. I have seen these cause balance problems before when they shift on the rubber. Check motor mounts are all the bolts tight.

Haven't had tranny out...but did have it serviced, and I did wonder about the harmonic balancer. I need a good mechanic...that knows this engine and tranny. I haven't had time to have it checked since last post... maybe this week. Thanks for your advice!

Is it constant or does it cycle? My A/c compressor causes a pretty good vibration when it cycles. I can feel it though the go pedal.
