Play in turbo shaft.

I checked my turbo the other day for play and it seems that it does have some. What should I do? My truck has 130k on it and I plan on about 450HP should I just wait and replace it with a KSB-1 or just repair it? What would be a good replacement for about 450hp AUTO besides a KSB-1 or is that the way to go for AUTOs? Also the blades looked like they may have had a chip or two on it. Ill get some pictures up as soon as I can.

Thanks for the help.

Well if you know you're gonna upgrade turbos here in the near future, you mine as well upgrade now. There's going to be some play in the shaft, but you can tell when its too much. If not, then find a buddy and compare it to his. As for which turbo to get, a KSb-1 would suit you very nicely, but might be a tad hot at 450hp at the strip or towing heavy with a box on its highest setting.

Turbo

Dave, they all have side to side movement, there should be very little if any in and out. I have just the turbo you need B1-2. Thanks Steve B.

Right, you have to figure a small amount of play in the shaft where the oil goes around it for lube. Are you sure its a sizeable amount?

Look to see if turbo blades have been contacting housing, clean blades and inspect, if damaged either way it's time for a new turbo. Upgrade to suitable sized turbo for your hp requirements.

I'm going to check the turbo out more indepth tomorrow. As for replacment turbos, I'm looking at the Dodgezilla because it is a heck of alot cheaper than the KSB-1. I'm looking to spend about a grand on a turbo that will support 400-450hp. Any suggestions??

In and out play is bad. Side to side play will not hurt anything as long as the wheels are not rubbing the housings per holset. If it is tight in and out, leave it alone. They arent really hard to rebuild either and the kit from HTT is about $87.
