You were on the money Blake, $80 smackeroos. At first he told me 12.60, but I told him that must not be the right one so I gave him the numbers posted here (thanks Colo River Ram!) and that I knew it was pricey and he was like "oh yea, this must be the one, $78 bucks". I'm thinking I'm going to get my exhaust all welded up too, I cant help but think that the new 5" had something to do with it. It was snug when I put it together, but maybe too much movement???

Hard to say what could have caused the failure, but seeing how the other one broke, Id say its was an issue with the clamp itself. Either an impurity or failure due to heat and or fatigue.

I dont think welding up the exhaust would help any, and would make for a pain if you had to remove it.

But, Im no expert on it, maybe someone will chime in with more/better info.

Yea you got me pondering it now lol... My main concern is the downpipe, maybe just tack weld it so it will come off easy cause it seemed to have shifted with the elbow.

Truck has 140k on it, and the clamp has been taken off and reused, that over time may have weakened it, I guess my concern is i don't want to be changing these out very often.

Well you got a 140 on it. I take it that one was the original. Now you got a new one. If it last another 140k your good to go.

Maybe search around a salvage yards and see if you can find a spare for cheap. Toss it in the back for insurance.

How much was it at the Cummins shop and did you call the number to ask if the clamp was the same with the prefix # ?(which is normally their bin location #)

Didnt call the Cummins shop. I had to take my pops to the retina specialist in Austin, on the way back i stopped by the dealer with the part number. I'm going to call them and get a spare from them though. The one with the prefix I was a little leary of the site, no address and limited contact info; I may try to call though and see.

I'll bite the bullet one time and get it for their price, next time I'll be prepared if it happens again.

I just bought one from Cummins in Anchorage, Alaska. It cost me $41. They did not have one in stock so I was going to have to wait about a week so I paid overnight shipping. That cost me $20 extra so I paid $61 total and it came right to my door. I ordered it at 5pm Thursday night and it was on my doorstep in Wasilla by noon Friday, the next day.

I do not see any reason to order that from Dodge.

Those V-band clamps are used in aviation to hold hydraulic pumps in place and heat ducts as well. One thing everybody needs to know is that those clamps can be overtightened very easy. The nut does not get tightened in foot pounds, they are in inch pounds.
