Turbo barking

Pulling 23,000# load that i pull weekly, today pulling up hill i started to hear what i guess you would call turbo barking or shutter at half throttle so i can keep my egts under control. Dont have a clue whats going on seemed to get worse each hill that i would climb until i unhooked cant get it to do it with out the load.

Barking is caused by rapid deceleration of the turbo's fan blades (look up cavitation if needed) it should only occur when suddenly letting off the gas while the turbo is spooled up.

As you let off the gas quickly the engine no longer needs the amount of air being forced, it is sent back through the system (path of least resistance) until it hits the turbo where it tries to reverse the direction of the blades.

I hope that is clear enough.

have you removed your silencer ring? you may be one of the rare cases, where removing the silencer ring will actually do more than make more noise. It wouldn't be the first time I've heard of a fueled HY truck benefit from silencer ring removal

Check your stg II coupler. Mine did the same exact thing, come to find out it blew a hole in the coupler. Replaced it with a better quality one and never had the problem again.
