truck shuts or backs down while running
hey guys need some opinions here. The other night running down the highway on cruise at 75mph the truck just all of sudden started slowing down like i took my foot off the throttle. So i kicked it out of cruise and pushed the throttle down and got nothing, truck slowed down to 40mph and then i got throttle control again.Got the truck back up to about 72mph and the same thing happen again. Truck slow down to about 40mph got control again, by this time I'm going up a mountain and got the mph up to about 60mph and then did it again.I pulled over plugged smarty in and put it back to stock and never had the problem again.I've had this smarty now for about 8 months with no problems what so ever. This thing is great.Plugged smarty back in the next day put it back on 9 and truck ran great no problems.Went to work this morning truck running great got on it hard a bit to pass some cars about 90mph, back down to 72mph truck running good. Then next thing you know, it starting slowing down again this time the engine shut off and i pulled over. Took 3 times to start but got truck running and made it to work. Anyone got any clues what this might be? thanks
Sounds like what gassers did in below freezing weather when water was in the fuel filter/water trap.It froze the water that is.Just a thought. As the day wramed up they ran fine. After sitting a while drain your fuel filter housing.Should be drained on a regular basis.Water in fuel lights on these trucks don't seem to work.
My motorcycle did the exact same this this past summer, lol. Does sound like a fuel or de-fueling issue. Check the obvious things first like Hounddog suggested. My problem was varnish causing fuel flow restriction.
I had the same prob in my 05, it turned out to be my programmer, what was weird was it was not coming up with an error code...The second time it did it it flashed an 0088 code, apparently something to do with the fuel rail press sensor? Not certain but since I sent my Edge back in to be up dated and I stacked the predator, 0 problems... Hope I could help...

Did you see what your fuel pressure dropped to when this happened? Sounds like the infamous "lift pump" situation. When they start running slow and eventually quit, that's the symptoms.
Just a thought.

No i don't have a fuel pressure gauge yet, but a good idea though. I was going to call bob wagner to see if he thinks it might be the programmer.I'm going out in a little bit to drain fuel filter to get out any water and waiting for my fuel filter to come in the mail from diesel manor. Is the lift pump electrical and if so does it have a relay going to it.I was thinking maybe the relay might be going up. Thanks for the imput guys and anyone else with ideas please chime in.
