Truck Idles To 1000 Rpm When Parked

I waited outside yesterday while my wife went into the store and I had my truck running to keep warm and I noticed after about 5 minutes or so the engine revs up to 1000 rpm but if I step on the brake it will idle down. It was like I was turning on the high idle. It did this a couple of times. The temp. outside was about 28-30 degrees. Does this sound normal or should I have it looked at ? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Normal. If certain parameters are met, Outside Air temp, Engine temp, it will automatically idle at 1000 RPM. Once the engine reached a certain temp it idled back down. This is completely normal.

That's the automatic high idle feature. I believe it's covered in your owner's manual. In any case, it's totally normal, and sometimes will come on even after the truck is fully warmed up, provided you idle it for a while in cold ambient temps.

That is NOT norma, you should park it and have it towed to the dealer as soon as you can.

Nah, it's normal.

The elevated idle is different from the cold weather idle up feature on automatics. All diesels (manual trans and 48re) will go to 1000 rpm for reasons stated above. Only the automatics can have the cold weather idle up feature that allows you to adjust the engine idle set speed from 1200 to 1500rpm (until the Mopar clutch switch comes out anyway).
