Trouble code P1740

Engine light came on while driving downhill on mountain road with OD off at
~35 mph. Check for code(s) only one showing was P1740 (TCC or OD solenoid) Truck drives OK (shifts up/down OK in: OD on, Tow/Haul & OD off modes). I tow a 34' 5th wheel and am couple of hundred miles from nearest Dodge Dealer (Rainier Dodge in Olympia, WA). Wasn't towing 5th wheel at time of incident, just out seeing the sights. Do I need to find a tranny shop ASAP or take it in when I get to a dealer. Help if you can, THANKS!!

Clear the code and keep on haulin....Mine did the same thing about 2k miles ago. Same scenario as yours. Prior to my code I had driven the truck with od off for about 20 miles at around 25-35 mph. After a trip to the dealer and they told me I needed a new front pump,tq converter and a slew of other parts, I said ok cuz it is under warranty. They said they would call when all the parts came in. When I got home I took a look underneath my truck and saw they never looked at or touched my trans pan. After a lot of research I have come to the conclusion that when your truck throws that code they automatically have a list of parts to replace without even actually knowing if all the parts they want to replace are bad. Well they never called, and I have since then cleared the code changed the fluid and filter adjusted the bands and have towed for the last 2k miles with my truck and there is no difference in the tranny since the truck was brand new. Sorry for the long post but that has been my experience with the P1740 code.

Check this thread for more info on your situation, and if that is not quite enough then just do a search for P1740 and more info will come up for you.

In the end it is ok for that code if you have a after market trans...just clear it and go on. I get one almost every day!!!

Hey Coparam 4X4 and 2007 5.9,
THANKS!! for the reply/info. I was out running amuck on the roads to/around Mt. St. Helens....dang thing's under warranty so I figured it would either run OK or become a more obvious problem. Ran just fine so I aint gonna sweat it.
Again, THANKS!!
