I don't think the use of an Edge caused this failure. DC is using it as an excuse. Just my guess though.

If he was towing that trailor loaded with hay and that EZ dialed up with no gauges thats where the failure happened. I turn off my VA box when loaded heavy. No worries then.

Take some responsibility for your actions if ya'll want to make your trucks more manly than act like a man when you screw it up. it disgusts me tohere all this whineing
I agree with you, thanks for saying it.

I don't think it is so simple. We shouldn't expect DC to warrenty problems caused by our mods. BUT, they shouldn't deny warrenty on problems unrelated to the mods.

So, the real simple question is: Did the mods cause this problem? Unfortunately, we will never know because the dealers deny warrenty without investigating the cause. I thought this was illegal but they get away with it.

I still don't think we have heard what exactly is wrong with this engine. Just seems to be alot of speculation. Hopefully we'll hear when it is known for sure. This really has my curiosity up now...

Everyone repeat after me. If I bomb my truck I am my own warranty station.

It sucks what happened to your truck but that is the chance you take. I wish you luck. 305 and 555 will keep mine alive.

Thanks for the info so far. Sorry for your troubles. I hate seeing ANY truck lay down but hopefully the rest of us can learn something from the failure when it comes into a little more light. I've toasted more than my fair share of engines over the years but at least I learned something from each one. Again, sorry for your troubles and keeps us up to date...

I was thinking about a mild power module, intake mods, gauges, and even a cat-back exhaust or better muffler. After reading thru this thread, I've decided I would rather DC be my warranty station. I'll save the money from all those mods and put it to other uses - and have the peace of mind that for the first 7/70k (100k engine), major powertrain stuff will never be questioned.

Would I like more power? Who wouldn't? But I chose the CTD because of its pulling power and reliability over the other brands. It still pulls as well or better than my F250 with a Hypertech did. If I want to race around, I'll borrow the wife's bimmer.

So, it'll be stock air filters, oil filters, fuel filters and fluids for me. I might even let the dealer do the work - sounds like it might just save me in the long run. Maybe DC will come out with factory authorized bombs in the future. Probably about the same time the reflash for increased mileage comes.

CCOUGHRAN, I wish you well in making the best of your situation. I think everyone here feels your pain.

Neil, I think you are correct. I have gauges, and a cat-back exhaust is probably coming soon, but intake mods and chips are out.

Not willing to risk it. I didn't do any more than that to my PSD, and it paid off, with all the warranty work to that.

Wex,

Even gauges and air filters scare me now. I'd like an EGT gauge just to know what's going on (especially on cooldowns). And, a tranny gauge could prevent frying my 48RE. But, blow a turbo and they could claim it was metal filings from the probe installation. Put in a less restrictive air filter and they'll argue you let in too much dirt.

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Some of us are just trying to polish off our trucks to be the best they can be by adding the little "extras" that DC can't do and still make them affordable to the masses. The penalty we pay for that is that we give them excuses to renig on their obligations to fix things that may be completely unrelated. Problem is - even though we may be in the right, we don't have the legal resources to fight Goliath.

I just want a reliable driver that can tow my 10klb fiver up the Sherwin Grade (Hwy 395 near Mammoth, CA) at the speed limit. I haven't tried it yet, but my trip to Big Bear Lake says it will do it.

After reading some of the horror stories of grenaded engines and voided warranties with boxes I decided not to risk it. My baby is going to remain stock until the warranty expires.

First its NOT cheating a DEALER.They get paid WELL for WARRANTY repairs.I worked in service in auto dealers for 25 years. They and the manufacture DON"T GIVE ANYONE ANYTHING.The PLANT workers etc.get the best end of the deal.Does not break my heart to see D.C.or Ford/G.M whoever BUY these repairs.I've seen them by B/S out of warranty repairs on HUNDEREDS(multiply this by HUGE numbes natonwide) of NON maintained autos and trucks in the past.Let them buy some of this on trucks that they make a MINT on.the dealer will get a 45%markup on the ENGINE AND RELEATED PARTS and $70/80 bucks a hour times flat rate. Not a bad deal in my book.Even if D.C. buys PARTS ONLY and customer pays labor its a win/win situation all the way around.Dealer employees don't get anything but a PAYCHECK from the dealer and NOTHING from D.C.benifits are slim to none.I sure won't lose sleep over D.C.warranting whatever for however as long.

No you aren't cheating the dealer, you are cheating us other people the buy the trucks and have to pay extra for the rest to get the motors repaired. DC doesn't just eat that cost, it gets added onto every vehicle they sell.
