Transmission or TC?

Hey all, I have scanned the forums and have found a post that matches my problem. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...e-t294402.html Now... While he has a manual transmission, Mine's automatic. I spoke to a mechanic and he said it sounded like i have the clutches in a few gears slipping in my transmission. He said that it's unlikely it would be the torque converter. I also spoke to the owner of a transmission shop, he said that it could be either or but there was no way to tell. The truck runs perfectly under normal driving conditions, no stutters or slips. Which is why i'm leaning more towards the TC. What do you folks think?

Could be either torque convertor or trans slipping... either one is possible.

I had one of the baddest tripple disk torque convertors from Goerend. It failed. It destroyed my trans. Anything is possible.

Anyhow that is not a knock to Goerend as he did replace that convertor under warranty (I had to pay shipping only). But fixing the trans was on my dime... and it was an expensive dime at that.

No kidding... i've priced the Goerend tranny/TC combo. If only this had started acting up BEFORE i spent the 1500 on fender flares and powersteps i'd have had a pretty good start on one. Do you think a local shop could build me up one that would hold up to 5-600 horses? I'm not looking forward to paying to ship that thing to Oklahoma..

If you have a local trans shop that does high performance trannys, I don't see why not... but building torque converters is a bit of a specialty. I would ask around. Any drag racers near your parts?

Sadly, no. There's not much of anything around here. Just got a Goerend transmission priced and it's not too far off what i was thinking. I think i'm gonna go out on a limb and get a triple disk TC from them and pray that it solves my problems. The more i read about symptoms of a bad TC the more i come to believe that's what i have. I've only got a little crappy Banks Six gun. Was hoping that would tide me over and keep everything in one piece till i pay the truck off. Kind of hard to shell out 6 and a half grand while making a 500$ truck payment.

Good luck... I know it can be expensive. Life is expensive these days.

You cannot place a triple disc converter in front of a stock trans and expect good results... your valve body needs upgraded as well, and before that, at this point you need your whole tranny diagnosed...Sorry
