Transmission Probs - Had Truck Towed to Dealer

Well I hope I can get some insight into my problem. Get going this morning to an appointment, it's cold, around 20's but plugged in over night. We just had snow so the streets are slick.

So I start my drive and the truck is acting real sluggish. I can not hear tires spinning so I turn around and head in the direction of home to make sure I can get there. On the way back the "Trans Temp" light comes on. So I park it call the local dealer and they have Road Side assistance tow it in because it is under warranty, about 14,000 mi.

So my question is, what could be the problem? I have no boxes, nothing done except oil change and fuel filter. I am in MD so we got snow and I was driving in some of it but nothing out of the ordinary. Is there something the snow could have caused or aggrivated. The main reason I don't believe the snow to be the culprit is the truck felt like it might have had some bad fuel before the snow began. Any help is appreciated.

JBullpin, Sounds like fluid wasn't gettin pumped by the tranny, That temp isn't too cold for these trucks....mine shifts sluggishly for the first few miles until the fluid gets warmed up. The fluid could be low, wrong kind, or filter plugged....dealer will figure it out hopefully. ks

Could be electrical and the moisture from the snow aggrevated the problem. My truck had an electrical short on the wire harness going to the trans. It was rubbing against a ground strap under the truck and at about 14k miles it finally cut through and intermittently shorted putting the trans into limp mode (starts out in second or third and stays there...real sluggish on takeoff and doesn't shift). Many trips to the dealer trying to find the problem because it was intermittent. Finally, another member on this board solved it for me cause he had the same condition.

Here is what he wrote me and it solved my problem -

Yeah, its all fixed up now. Here is what the work ticket said:
Diagnose vehicle and found DTC P2769 for TCC control circuit low. Follow flow chart and called Star, locate the YL/LB wire in pin #9 connector 109 chaffing on top of the bellhousing. Insulate and reroute wiring in connector Y1/LB.

Trace all the wiring coming from the bellhousing, there must be a wire getting damaged or something. Heck, if you want print this diagnosis and bring it to the dealer. Tell them to follow it.

Hope that helps. I know I was ****** spending all that time trying to fix it.

Pearce

Good luck,

Thanks, this gives me a good starting point for when the dealer starts work on it. They didn't get a chance yesterday but I will post the outcome.

Valve Body to be replaced

Well finally heard back from the dealer. They are replacing the entire valve body. There was no governor pressure, they tried replacing the sensor but that was unsucessful. After a call to Chrysler the said replace the entire unit. Now the fun begins as the part is on back order with the closest unit in Michigan, my truck in Maryland. Monday at the earliest. I asked about any signs to look for this happening and they stated they never had to replace a valve body before and I shouldn't have to ever again.

So lack of fluid pressure tripped the "Trans Temp" dummy light and left me with little power to the wheels.

I will post any further details. Thanks again for everyones help.

If the pressure sensor/thermistor goes bad, that makes sense. But the whole VB???
