Transmission problem?
Transmission problem?
I have a 2003 with an automatic 2 wheel drive.
Recently, while driving at 70 mph @1900 rpm's the transmission will go into neutral.
This has happened only twice now, couple weeks apart.
This happens with no load and no grade, basic freeway driving.
After lifting my foot off the go pedal, I can feel the transmission go back into gear and everything is "seems" fine.
The transmission has 140,000 miles on it and has been serviced every 30,000 miles. It is stock with a deep pan.
To the best of my knowledge the bands have never been adjusted.
I also show no error codes. The fuild does not smell bad nor does it look bad.
The dealer has been no help. They just want to rebuild it.
Please any advice and or point of direction.

I have an '03 as well just as you describe. Mine refused to stay in O.D. and after many $$ in not needed parts being replaced I stumbled onto the problem which was an intermittent contact of a cable and PCM unit.
Disconnect the batteries.
Remove the cables from the PCM, (should be 3) located ont he firewall pass side.
Then take a can of contact cleaner and spray the crappp out of both sides. Re-connect sseveral times and spray between connections. Then when you're done, reconnect the batteries and check it out.
Mine hasn't given me any trouble since. There's also a tech bulletin out there (TSA) for the connectors which apparently aren't waterproof enough. It's a dealer fix for free.
I'll try to locate it and post it.

Also, once contacts are clean use some dielectric grease on both male and female sides and then plug together. They will never corrode again. I as a routine do this to all major connections within the first few days of ownership.
Saves a great deal of grief latter because it will never give you a problem when it is convienant
