1500 gasser transmission problem

I know that this is not the appropriate site, but hey, at least he owns a Ram. A friend of mine has a 1500 Ram gasser and is experiencing some noise when he shifts to reverse in his auto transmission. I remember having a similar noise when I owned a '97 1/2 ton truck but traded the truck before it became a real problem. Does anyone know where I can go to search for further information about this problem? Maybe a pointout to a TSB? How about a online site for the fuel challenged RAM owners?

~Dave

Re:1500 gasser transmission problem

The noise you are describing is just a valve vibrating in the valvebody. It will not hurt anything but your nerves!!
Dodge did have a tsb on it and a few parts to change but 50% of those didn't solve it.

Re:1500 gasser transmission problem

HEY DAVE!
It's more important for a gasser than a diesel to put the thing in neutral after starting. If you will do this your trans life will nearly double, since the torqeflite doesn't lube in park. There's also the remote possibility of bending a band apply lever when a gasser is cold, on hi-idle and dropped into reverse, although I don't believe that happens as much with the fuel injection have better control of revs.

Tony

PS this is S.O.P. for anyone that drag races a MOPAR and I'm sure its the reason my 3500 has yet to cause me any trouble!!

You might want to try http://www.dodgeram.org to see which TSBs may apply to this. I remember there being at least two related to autos and noises when shifting from park. If I remember correctly, one of them had to do with linkage; I'm not sure what the other one was.
