Transmission on its way out..Want new trans to lockup in 2nd!!

Well, my 48re has given up the ghost... It slips and freewheels from the first to second gear shift.. It is coming out next week... I will upgrade to a triple disk converter and probably a valve body and Trans Pan..

Is it possible to upgrade so that I can have the torque converter lock up in second gear with out the aid of a manual override switch??

Thanks in advance

If you manually shift into to 2nd on a stock tranny it will lock the TC.. You sure you dont need to just tighten the bands? Hate to see you spend all that money unless you really want too..

Well, I can tell you the fluid is definitely burnt... I guess at this point It almost seems easier to do the upgade and do a triple disk converter and Trans Go shift kit now than to try to band aid the problem then "try" to push it another few thousand miles...

If it is your front band and the band is trashed what you say you are wanting to replace will not fix your problem. It will only keep it from happening again.
I had the same problem you are having and tried doing an adjustment on my front band. the set screw sank to the trans case. Ended up needing a new band and a new drum. As long as he was in there i did a VB with a shift kit. Definitely felt the inprovments. Been fine ever since (about 8k miles) now all i need is a Torque Converter just because the stock ones are junk......

dont some shift kits come with one of the bands? the free wheeling in 1-2 shift may be caused by a improperly adjusted or worn/burnt band. wouldnt hurt to get that checked.

Check BD, they have rebates on trany packages. Just put one in mine and it is like a new truck. Put in one of there TC`s in to . Un-real the difference from the stock set up. Will be towing this weekend , but very happy with the results.
