Transmission going?
Transmission going?
I've started noticing more and more when shifting under normal acceleration slipping between gears. When it goes to shift to the next gear rpms will go up and for a short period then it will find the next gear fine. It never slips in and out of gear and when it shifts it shifts smooth. is my trans on its way out or could it possibly be the torque converter?
I assume you've checked your ATF level (MUST be level, hot and idling in neutral to be accurate), changed the filter and ALL the fluid, and adjusted the bands? It sound to me like you could just be low on fluid, or the fluid is toast (brown instead of red).
So it finally went out on me. Was driving in town and it got to where it didnt want to go in 3rd at all. Im having it rebuilt and there going to put a billet torque converter and "better clutches" in the transmission. How do you think this will hold up?
I would get specifics on the parts they're using. You want Goerend or Suncoast (and there are a couple of other good ones out there). No generic crap. Hope the shop has a good reputation and stands behind their work.
I have 103k on my tranny. Put a billet Triple Lock TC in by TFI in Deland Fl at 57,000 miles after finding a loose band in the tranny. Changed both selonoids and had the mechanic eyeball the rest of it.
So far its been great. I average 10-13K a year towing my fiver. If your going to a triple lock, be cautious about running in Tow Haul. The shift from 3rd to OD can be really hard. Don't know how hard since mine is an 06 and shifts from 3rd to OD locked up. I have to run her up with OD off and at 55 push the button with the foot off the go pedal and allow it to shift smoothly. After that it don't slow down and does not down shift running at 63 mph towing.
Edge set on tow. I'll pull it down when engine load is 98% and its not showing any signs of changing. Will pull this season and them pull it down and see whats going on.
Pulls a 7% grade at 48mph with temps, EGT's and Tranny temp stable.
