transmission gauge questions?

I just install a tranny gauge on my truck. I purchased the gauge and mounts for genos garage. They recommended the Accu-temp aluminum thingy to mount the sensor in. I installed this on the pressure line. My questions is this an accurate method to measure the temp? The highest i've seen the gauge is 160 sitting in traffic. As soon as I get moving it drops to under a 100 degrees, thats where the gauge stops. I live in the midwest and its been cold here but this thing just doesn't seem accurate. Don't care to buy another tranny for this thing.
thanks for any and all help!

If that sensor is mounted on the cooler return line then it's most likely correct. The trans temp should NEVER go higher than your water temp and in most cases, unless you're shifting and working it hard enough for the converter to heat upt he fluid beyond the minimum you're seeing now, it won't be very hot at all.
That temp is fine in my opinion...especially since it's so durn cold there anyway.
