As far as adjusting the bands, I don't know, But the High Idle thing is Normal. I was just up in Long Eddy N.Y. and it was 9 degrees in the morn, and after I started my truck, it went to High Idle. The truck will do it on its own when the temp is cold enough. If you let it run, and tap the brake after a few mins to get down to norm idle, and you let it sit and idle, if its cold enough, after a min or so, it will go back up to high idle on its own again. Just figued Id let you know.

Don't know about the bands...but my truck will also fire up in high idle.Usually it will run for a bit before going into high idle but it seems the colder it is the more likely it will fire in high idle...Thank god for 0w40.

If you like the way it shifts, don't mess with it. Adjusting them may change the shifting firmness, or give you a clunk or other funny noises your not used too if too tight. If you get a nice shift, it's because the clutch packs, oneway bearing, and bands are working in perfect sync with each other , why mess with perfection. Besides, I've rebuilt transmissions with very high mileage, and the bands coming out aren't any thinner than new bands going in. They don't seem to wear much at all, that's way most overhaul kits don't even include bands, their sold separately as needed.
