transfer pump?

I went out of town this week towing a trailer load of furniture and got 7 hours away and my truck acted like it was running out of fuel then it quit.. Had it towed to the dealer and they said it was the transfer pump.. My truck is an 04.5 with 80k on it and I was afraid of what I was going to hear about how much it was going to cost. She came out a told me it was the transfer pump and it was going to be about $4,000 dollars yes $4k then she said it was covered under the power train warrenty.. (Thank God)..
What exactly is the transfer pump anyway? Is it the same thing as the lift pump?
Does it really cost that much?

Thanks Rob

Hopefully she was kidding about the $4k.

Yes, the lift pump and transfer pump are the same.

Maybe the total bill is for a new injector pump, switch to in-tank lift pump, and night out on the town for the folks at the dealer.

Its no 4k. If replaced with the intank module more like a $600 warranty claim or there abouts.
